Back to the future with ecorevelado!

Like the last 10 years never happened: “A new Sales channel: INTERNET.” It goes on: “You’ll have access to our website, like a directory, so that clients can find you…” What will they think of next?

Seen at Sonimagfoto, which I have to say was very disappointing, compared to the last time I went, which was a while ago. The only presentation I (almost) sat through was so tedious (and full of poor information, badly presented) I have quite a collection of photos of the ceiling, the back of the head of the man in front and my shoes.

Hmmm, tasty!

There’s this little Japanese bar on Muntaner just above Mallorca and I’d always seen it from the bus and thought I really must go there. Well, finally I did. I wish I hadn’t waited so long! The name is Catalan (Una Mica de Japó) but the place is as authentic as I can imagine, taking into account I haven’t been to Japan.

What I noticed passing by on the TMB number 66 was that usually the people at the little bar were Japanese. Good sign. Anyway, recommended, if you want what I expect is what your mama would cook you at home, if your mama was Japanese.

More CSS work.

Socialtext Open screenshot
I’ve been doing a lot more HTML/CSS recently than backend stuff, which suits me actually. Anyway, this is for Socialtext Open, the Wiki platform for which I’ve been doing a fair bit of work recently. It’s quite an extensive and varied app, so dealing with the CSS is quite an interesting challenge. The HTML is fixed (without getting your hands dirty – it’s OSS so you can dive in and do what you like) although it’s possible to set up a custom javascript insert in the config through which the DOM can be manipulated to suit. In this example, it’s used to add an automated onion-skinning technique for the sidebar boxes and some other tricks (font-size toolbar, etc.)

Inactivity, the bane of the blog…

Well, as the majority of people who know they have stuff to say on a blog, do I ever get around to posting? Almost never… very poor form having a post about not posting in order to post something, but there you go :|

Sanshirou – thanks for nothing

*I don’t normally like to spread around the negativity, but I just felt like writing this up.*

For my sushi, sashimi or maki fix in Barcelona, I go to a Japanese restaurant just up the road from home – the Sanshirou of the post title – and while it’s not bad, it’s nothing outstanding. Sofia loves the conveyor belt, for the novelty of course, and also she does like her sushi quite a bit. Japanese restaurants seem to be the big growth industry in Barcelona at the moment, although they’re mostly run by Chinese people, it seems. I just went up there a little late (about 16:15) and asked what time they stopped the buffet; I was told 16:30, so I popped out to wait outside – don’t ask why, whole other story – and popped back in just before 16:30. The young bloke who works there – looks a bit studenty, has a bit of an attitude problem – said it was closed. Now I said I just asked the waitress and she said four-thirty, and it’s not yet four-thirty. He said again it’s closed with classic annoying kid gestures – rich kid I reckon, the boss’s son? Maybe… I said again, well, it’s a bit harsh, to which he said “adéu” and turned on his heel. The only reason I point this out is that I go to the place several times a month, paying the slightly high prices for the fairly average food and it ticks me off a bit. And most likely, if you’re searching for sushi in Barcelona, this post will come higher up the rankings than most restaurants here – have you ever tried to google for products or services in Barcelona? (Or in Spain in general, probably.) It’s like SEO never happened! So, yeah, I’ll be going somewhere else for my raw-fish-on-rice requirements, sorry Sanshirou.

Saddam: a tribute

The Guardian’s _comment is free…_ has a nice piece entitled Saddam: a tribute by David Cox in which he talks about the frightening slide of Iraq from unacceptable repression into completely unmanageable chaos on the way to Armageddon.

Oh, John, you *are* a card!

‘It’s a shame when you see world-class players trying to get others booked’, says John Terry. Yes, I agree. Did Drogba just like the nice Camp Nou surface or does he need a hip replacement? If I see him in the street (unlikely, I know) I’ll tap his ankle to see what happens.
