Is it just me, or is “Prego” an odd choice of name for a super-slim camera?

Not that I’m setting out to deliberately bash the iPod Photo, but… it *buzzes*.
iPod Photo: what a let-down
What’s the point? I was kinda sorta thinking about the possibility of an iPod Photo before they came out. I don’t know why – I’m not a big Apple fan or anything. But having seen what it can(‘t) do, I have to conclude: naaah… The lack of a CF slot: that’s an important one for me, but I doubt I was very seriously expecting it to be included. But the fact that you have to get photos on there using iTunes? As opposed to just copying them over as a standard mass storage device? Can that be right? And in the same way, if you *do* use an add-on card reader, you can’t view the image files, even if you do happen to shoot JPEG. iTunes uses its own thumbnail format to allow you to view the things on the iPod.
So, what’s the point? It’s only really nice as a normal iPod, but with the addition of a nice colour screen that can show album art. But for photos, it seems it’s just a toy.

Cantar-X, from Aaton, looks v. nice. I don’t *need* it, but, well, I *do* need it actually. 24bit, 96KHz HDD recording! 18 simultaneous inputs! Dustproof and waterproof six linear fader mixer! DVD+R! Bluetooth! Modulometers! (Eh?)

This looks really cool as a control surface where you don’t have to choose upfront how many faders you need versus how many knobs. (Ah, the age-old “how many knobs will I need?” debate…)
Sandisk Photo Album
I like the look of this. When I first saw it (and for that matter when I first saw the original version ages back) I thought how cool it would be if you could just plug in a USB hard drive. I didn’t notice at first, but it turns out this version accepts USB flash drives, so there’s a good chance that it’ll work with a spinning version, no? Or am I just hoping? They mention their Cruzer drives, of course. Anyway, I don’t know if there’s any intrinsic technical difference between a USB flash or hard drives, but why would there be? (So many questions in this post…) Here’s hoping.
Also interesting is the second CF slot, which can store reduced-resolution versions of user-selected images specifically for TV viewing. Handy.

Over on the gamecubicle boards, there’s an interesting thread about massive networking possibilities of Nintendo DS. it seems to point to an idea that the machine can act as a repeater, in so doing creating a dynamic network of DS machines, without the need for any wifi access point. Wild! Then they become self-aware…
